Item Description:

You are offerding on the following item:
The Eversharp Sixty Four was named after the $64 Question, a popular game show back when $64 was considered a lot of money. The set was priced at $64, which was a tremendous amount of money back then for a pen and pencil set, even one with this much 14K gold. Both the pen and pencil have 14K gold caps This set sits inside its original deep maroon velvet-covered presentation box.Rare and beautiful 14K solid gold-capped, standard sized Eversharp “Sixty Four”/64 fountain pen and mechanical pencil set in Black. Each cap is marked “14K Solid Gold”. The caps also have the double check mark.
This set is circa 1943 and made in the U.S.A. Both instruments are in Excellent cosmetic condition with no dents, no engravings, no chips, no repairs. The clips on the pen and pencil are nice and tight. The black plastic is nice and bright.
The set comes in its original large velvet case lined with satin and velvet. The outside of the box is burgundy velvet and the inside bottom is tan velvet. The outside of this box has some wear and part of the crushed velvet is worn. There is a ribbon sewn into the box which reads: “Fourteen Karat Gold”. Stamped on the satin is “Eversharp Sixty Four”. There is quite a bit of 14K solid gold in these instruments.Around 1914, Charles R. Keeran invented the basic mechanism for the Eversharp mechanical pencil, thought up the \"Eversharp\" trademark, and set up a company to make and sell Eversharp pencils. He relocated to Evansville. He soon entered into a business alliance with the Wahl Adding Machine Company in Chicago. Wahl officers obtained a majority share in the Eversharp Pencil Company. In 1940, the Wahl company reorganized under the Eversharp name, which was better know in the marketplace because of the continued success of the Eversharp pencil line. The Eversharp repeater pencil, introduced in 1936, was really driving sales and profits for the company, whichhad fallen far behind Sheaffer and Parker in total sales revenue. The company was sold to Parker in 1957
