What a superb piece of history this is!!This is a post-war piece of American history. Times were hard and housewives used every scrap of fabric they could find to clothe their children and adorn their houses.Feed sacks were printed with pretty prints and even sometimes embroidery patterns so the housewife could make them into table linen, napkins. clothing etc.
This is a huge piece, consisting of several rice sacks sewn together with connecting lace. It may have been a table cloth for a large table, or it may have been used as a bedspread.
There are a few signs of wear. There is one tiny stain, some tearing to the lace and a couple of neat mends. Also, the fabric is generally off-white.I haven\'t liked to launder it for fear of damaging it, and also because this is its (current) original state. It\'s authentic!
This piece seems to be made up of a collection of rice sacks from rice mills in Texas, USA. Several are unreadable, but one is from the Comet Mill and one is from the Bay City Mill.
This is a really super piece. Genuine American folk history.
The linen measures 166cm by 212cm, which is large enough to cover the top of my double bed (see photo).
Free postage offer is to Mainland UK. I am happy to post to other locations, including overseas. I\'d love to see this piece go back to Texas, USA. Please ask for postage costs.
Any other questions, just ask!
