Cool, Vintage Navajo Sterling and Turquoise Cluster Ring This handwrought vintage Navajo sterling and turquoise ring is in a traditional cluster setting. The ring features 8 teal (green blue) cabachon turquoise stones all handset individually in tiny sawtooth bezel mounts. I love the look of the teal turquoise which is oftentimes found in the older tourist era pieces. This ring hails from the Fred Harvey tourist era when Easterners were traveling out west by train to come see the picturesque desert and canyonlands. Note there is one lighter stone.
In studying this ring under a loop, it looks like there may have been a replacement that was done very well. I think this because the sawteeth on the lighter stone\'s bezel is slightly larger than the other bezels teeth and because the stone is a lighter color. My best guess is sometime in this ring\'s lifetime a new bezel mount was made and soldered on to replace a broken mount. You would not be able to tell unless scrutinizing with magnification as I have to do for listing. At any rate, the repair was done well and I like the variation. It gives the ring personality and vintage charm in my opinion. I personally prefer and look for the older \"bench\" jewelry as opposed to a cookie cutter, perfect piece. I like the story these older pieces tell. The first picture is how the ring will look on your finger and my last photo shows the ring photo\'d with flash upclose to show details.
Raindrop beads and scrolled wire work frame the turquoise stones. An oval repoussed bead is in the center of the stones. The scrolled plate has oxidized in its recesses which provides nice contrast for the raised wire and stone mount. A slightly split side shank merges into one band in the back. The band is stamped on the sides. The end result is a very attractive, appealing design. The ring measures a ring size 5 1/4 or 5.25. Sizing should not be a problem if necessary. The front of the ring is 1\" high by 6/8\" wide. It weighs 6.2 grams. The ring is unmarked but it is definitely sterling. Many older pieces are not marked sterling because it did not become commonplace to stamp sterling on jewelry until the 1950\'s. Nice patina on the ring.
This is a great ring to add to one\'s collection. Any woman who likes her turquoise vintage with some variations and improvised improvements thrown in for good measure will love this ring. It all comes together on this piece. The ring catches your attention. I think it could become a favorite.
