Razors are SHAVE READY and receive:

1. Chemical Stripping, removing original laquer and plating down to base metal.
2. Deep Cleaning with Electroclean
3. Manual hand polishing to a high polish.
4. Electro cleaned and degreased with Electroclean
5. Etching to accept plating with Surface Activator
6. Initial plating of Bright Nickel.
7. Final plating of 24K Hard Gold @ 10 micro inches
8. Final Polish and Cleaning.
9. All restored razors not in an original box come in a Gold Bar Gift Box with a Certificate of Authenticity, that states the collectible was replated and refurbished from it\'s original condition.

Gillette original gold plated razors had a layer of clear lacquer applied to protect the plating. Our 24K hard gold is tougher than most dip electroplated gold and will hold up well for normal shaving. Some people apply a layer of protective wax, some spray on lacquer. Others leave them as is for their collections if not using for shaving. Because of this, so we don\'t contaminate the surface, we do not oil the razors, they are all fully functional otherwise.

We use a 24 karat hardened gold plating (Knoop hardness 130-200) that is many times more thick (10 micro-inches) than the original plating or gold wash used in the early 1900\'s. Not all razors can be made to look brand new with a mirror finish. Depending on the degree of wear and oxidation, we can usually get any condition razor back to a clean working, great looking collectible. The best mirror finish razors usually come from above average condition donor razors. Extremely worn or oxidized razors look really good, but may have blemishes which add patina. We do not try to overly buff a worn razor to a mirror finish as brass is soft and details suffer. We protect the detail and lettering and will always maintain those above minor imperfections. For razors in this condition, It gives a unique antique look with uniform plating.
