WelcomeFellow Vintage and Antique Halloween and Paper Ephemera Enthusiasts! Many of you know us as longtime collectorsand sellers of vintage and antique Hallowe\'en, Christmas, Valentine’s Day andEaster holiday memorabilia, antique dolls, old toys and lovely old china andglassware. We feel that wonderful change in the air! Soon it will be time for autumn … crunchyfalling leaves, crackling fires, warm apple cider, and … Hallowe\'en! Yay!For your all-year-long Hallowe\'en loving pleasure we are proud to present anabsolutely adorable small pressed paper pulp Jack o\' Lantern decoration thatwas made in America sometime during the 1940s or 1950s. Some refer to pressedpaper pulp as egg-crate material or paper or papier mache. Please meet James! This is a wonderful small-sized Jack measuring 5” tall withoutthe handle. His original paint is in a great shade of warm, rich orange andJames still retains his FRIGHTfully fabulous sheen. He also appears to retainhis original insert which Ziz believes the former owner backed with paper inorder to preserve it. If you are familiar with Jack o\' Lanterns from thisperiod, you know that many of their paper inserts darken and disintegrate with age.He has his wire bale handle as well. Interesting to note, on his underside iswritten “19” in grease pencil. This charming little fellow was most likely soldat one of those great old five-and-ten-cent stores such as Woolworths, Newberry\'s and others that many of us miss to this day.James’ original price was a whopping nineteen cents! He is in incredible, magnificent condition for his age. His original paintshows very little wear. The paper insert creating his charming and endearingexpression is complete. It has darkened attractively with age and the paperused to back it has some foxing. By the way, this design is called “Choir Boy”because he appears to be singing in celebration of All Hallows\' Eve. He wasnever used for his intended purpose. Back in the day, pressed paper pulplanterns such as James were often lit using real wax candles. GASP! However, wesee no indication that this lantern was used in this way. There is NO candlewax in his interior and there are NO burn marks whatsoever. There is typicalwear to the paint at the holes for the wire handle. This little darling is a WICKEDLY wonderful example of mid-century American Hallowe\'enat its FRIGHTfully finest. If you enjoy decorating with and/or collectingauthentic pieces of Hallowe\'en history as Ziz does, we think this adorablelittle fellow just might be the perfect acquisition for you! 🎃Please remember Ziz’s motto: Eat, Drinkand Be Scary! No BONES about it, we have gone to BAT for you and SCARED up a great dealfor true Halloween DIE-hards!
