Vintage Hand Sewn Feed Sack SUNBONNET SUE Applique Quilt TOP, Bedspread Adapted:

Please notice this is NOT a finished quilt: there is no batting or backing beneath the Sunbonnet Sue blocks shown on the photos. It has been adapted to be a makeshift, very thing bedspread by a previous owner, by adding the wide borders with ruffled yellow edges, but if it were to be used as a bedspread, it would be a very thin, very light weight one, please be so advised.
It can be used, of course, to make a quilt out of it, by the next owner, by using the part with the Sunbonnet Sue appliques as the top of a quilt; to do so, the next owner will have to put batting and backing, then quilt the whole thing in order to make it a true quilt.
There are 20 different fabrics used for the dress of the appliques, and all of them, to the best of our knowledge, are feed sacks.
The off-white fabric is also, very likely, corn meal or wheat sacks, or sugar sacks, recycled in a farm long ago, when the expression \"recycled\" was not commonly used or maybe even didn\'t exist at all.
The setting of all the blocks was done by hand, but the borders and the ruffles were sewn by machine.
Notice the original makers put borders on three sides only: the side by the headboard has no border. That is, we believe, a clear indication this was used as a decorative bedspread as is, without batting or backing, just simply put on a bed as we did when taking the pics.
When measured with borders and all, this measures 91\" by 85\" across. When just the Sunbonnet Sue top is measured, then it is 79\" by 61\" across, fitting almost perfectly the length and width of the queen size bed used for the photos, which is 80\" by 60\".
