Vintage Japanese Sewing Box

This is a vintage Japanese sewing box called Haribako that was used to store pins, spools of thread, thimbles, scissors and any accessories used for sewing. Itmeasures that 12.13\" tall, 13\" wide, 8.5\" deep. The unusual nature of this box is that it was constructed of solid Japanese Ash wood (called Toneriko). Due to the high cost and rarity of this wood it was generally used as a veneer or laminate. This box was most likely commissioned to a sewing box maker to be made using solid wood making it a rare find.

The entire box is solid Ash wood and only the drawer flooring was made using Cryptomeria wood. This would make a great jewelry box or a wonderful box for storage of small accessories.
