Officers parading at the beginning of a tour of duty were once requested to produce their appointments, this consisted of pocket book whistle and truncheon, a practice long since gone.

The following are extracts from the Metropolitan Police Orders dated Thursday February 7th 1884, Tue February 10th 1885 & Wed May 25th 1887. See attached photograph for a descriptive history on the whistle which would eventually take place of the rattle.

Today I am offering a very collectible Joseph Hudson London Metropolitan Police whistle, issue number 46463, made at Barr Street, Hockley, Birmingham, England, the address Hudson\'s manufactured whistles from the late 1920s, an MP21, offered in very good condition, full working order.
