ABOUT JOSEPH MRAZEK:Czech pottery produced by Joseph Mrazek\'s company, Peasant Art Industry, P.A.I., in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Mrazek immigrated to the United States from Eastern Europe when he was a teenager, and after attending art school in St. Louis, began painting and selling his pottery in New York in 1917. He was successful enough to rent a factory in Letovice, Czechoslovakia to start his own production line known as Peasant Art Industry or P.A.I. His pottery pieces and lamps were imported to the USA and sold in department stores.The factory was in operation from the 1920s up until 1935. The influence of the country of his birth, and the combination of the Art Noveau and Bohemian Art styles helps to explain how his ceramic creations have held so many enthralled for so long. What has endured over the years, since the closure of the Czecho Peasant Art Company in 1933, is the fascination with the color of these wonderful pieces. Collectors have long sought different combinations of the pottery to adorn their homes and showcases.
