This is a Mabie Todd Blackbird fountain pen in black and pearlescent green marble with gold filled trim dating from around 1948. The pen bears the model/colour code of '5241' imprinted on the end of the barrel
The pen comes with the original Mabie Todd Blackbird card box as shown in the pictures
This pen fills from an ink bottle using the lever on the side of the barrel. It does NOT take cartridges. We have serviced the pen and fitted a new ink sac, so it is all working
The nib is a fine grade in 14k gold with the imprint 'BLACKBIRD 14ct MT & Co Ld Made in England'
The barrel has the crisp imprint 'BLACKBIRD Self-Filling Pen // Mabie Todd & CO Ltd // Made in England'
The pen measures 4.8 inches (12.0cms) capped
ConditionOverall the pen seems not to have been used and is in excellent condition. The cap has the original paper price and nib grade label still in place. The photos give a very good impression of how crisp this pen is!
There are no dings, dents, chips, plating wear or personal engravings. We have checked it through our workshop; ultrasonically cleaned all the parts; fitted a new ink sac and tested the nib which is a smooth with good ink flow
The card 'Blackbird' box is quite worn
Unless we have stated so above, the item does not come with its original box or documents. If this lot contains items other than the actual pen/pencil, then we will describe these and photograph them

We always package pens in a protective plastic tube within a padded jiffey bag.
