A great, large, dark brown modern studio pottery bowl with scraffito rust colored line decoration by Gordon Martz for Marshall Studios. Gordon (1924 -2015) Martz and Jane (1929 - 2007) met when both were art students at Alfred. They married in 1950 and joined Jane\'s family business - Marshall Studios. In 1989 they sold their interest in Marshall Studios and retired to Arkansas where both continued to make studiopottery and ceramic sculpture.The bowl is approximately 13 1/2 inches in diameter and 6 1/2 inches tall. It is signed on the base - G. Martz 189. Although the bowl has a rounded bottom, it sits solidly on a flat surface. Gordon called this bowl (P189) the \" basketball bowl\" because it was originally molded around a basketball..Marshall Studios sold concave walnut base stands for this bowl. We purchased the bowl with a custom wood base made at a later time, which is listed in a separate sale. Substantial bowl - weighs 12 pounds.
