I recently attended the estate sale of the beloved Hollywood star Jane Withers. Many will remember her as the child actress who frequently starred with Shirley Temple in her early films. Perhaps you will recall her as the likable adult “Josephine the Plumber.” Doll collectors will know that there was even a doll made in her likeness! In any case, I felt privileged to have acquired a few goodies from the downsizing sale that was held as the lovely lady has moved on to new quarters.

Ms. Withers was an avid collector, whose prized possessions included a number of antique and vintage dolls. This wonderful doll is an example of the treasure I culled from the sale. Here we have for your offerding review a tiny artisan miniature replica of a German bisque Bye-lo baby doll made by Irma Park who was a prestigious N.I.A.D.A. artist in 1969. Imagine the skill and patience it would take to craft in this minute scale! The doll stands just a tad over 1” tall! She is skillfully dressed in a christening gown with tiny lace trim! How did anyone ever tie the bow at her neckline?!! The baby even has a minuscule matching bonnet! I believe the the artist worked in wax over composition and wire.

As shown in the last photograph, I also have a sweet little mammy doll by Irma Park. While she and the other props seen in my photos are NOT included here, the other Irma Park doll can be seen in a separate listing.
