This is a rare and highly sought after "napkin doll" or "napkin lady" made in California in the 1950s. Named "Marcia of California" she stands 13 inches high and features an iridescent molded light pink apron and basket (for toothpicks or mints) on her head. Napkin dolls were popular during the 40s and 50s and were used to hold napkins (in the slits in their skirts) for parties or kitchen decoration. This lady is in perfect condition for her age with no cracks, chips, or paint loss. There is a little crazing as would be expected for an item of this age. According to the book, Collectibles for the Kitchen, Bath, and Beyond edited by Ellen Bercovici, et al, Marcia of California is valued at $95-$150, with the pink version valued at 20% more. This lady, in this condition, is truly a rare find. " Made in USA"incised on back bottom rim.
