This fine example of Navajo Etched Pottery is signed, \"Dennison Billy, Navajo, \'94.\" It measures 7\" across by 5\" tall.Painted on a wheel before the pot is bisqued (initial firing,) designs are incised through the paint layer into the still-soft clay. The score lines, made with fine carving tools, become part of the design, and the resulting art piece is called Sgraffitto.This piece is done in red terracotta clay, and after firing, the resulting design shows the earth-toned red background.A few things to note: I do not ship overseas at this time. I will ship to USA only. Each item I sell is vintage, antique, and/or secondhand. Therefore, it will be in used condition.
