Vintage Nootka Native Carved Wood Club \"Wife Beater\" Ye Olde Curiosity Shop MINT:
$47.00

This unique item is from the world famous Ye Olde Curiosity Shop in Seattle, founded in 1899. If you areunfamiliar, please look up this amazing store online as there is a good deal ofinformation. It was/ is a sort of museum ofnaturaloddities...shrunken heads, mummies, taxidermy treasures and man made wonders from all over the world.
Especially in the first half of the 20thcentury, many of the store\'s items were brought infrom the Northwest Coastal natives of British Columbia, known as theNuu-chah-nulth or Nootkas. This \"Wife Beater\" appears to have been created for the tourist trade andresembles one of their typical halibut killing clubs, which were also made in whale bone. We likely date this to the 1950\'s-60\'s.
The club measures approximately 19\" tall x 6.5\" at the base. It appears to have been carved from a very lightweight pieceof wood, possibly driftwood. The \'teeth\' on the face are small, inset shells. Condition is very nice, by nature the piece is roughhewn. The twine handle is somewhat frayed, easily replaced if needed for hanging. (The color is slightly darker than pictured, the flash brightened it up abit.)
A conversationpiece for sure!
