For more information about our business, please feel free to visit our Profile is a vintage (serial number405263) Olds \"Conn 6D clone\" Double French Horn. This instrument has the same wrap and bore as a Conn 6D, and plays very well. These horns play very much like Conn 6Ds, though they often have better tone and responsiveness. The valves move well with very good compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition ofthis horn, there are some small dings, as well as light scratching and etching throughout theinstrument.All this is visible inthe pictures, and none of itaffects the playability of the horn.The bell engraving reads: “F.E. Olds & Son/ Fullerton, Calif.”This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop, andrepaired to full playability.This horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina.This instrument comes with a somewhat worn hardshell case and amouthpiece in good condition.
How the horn plays:Full, warm and resonant sound. The tone is smooth and clear. The horn is responsive, open and free-blowing. All registers speak well, including the low and high registers. The horn also has a very good dynamic range, capable of a very strong, edgy fortissimo without blatting and a soft, milky and full pianissimo. The Bb and F side timbres match well.
