Vintage Ornate Carved Gold Gilt Gesso Wood Picture Frame Museum Quality REVEL:

This is avintage carved (presumably hand carved) solid wood (maybe oak?) gilt frame. There is lovely detail, including little flowers and scroll work. Appears to be the traditional red burnishing clay gesso gold leaf style but I\'m not an expert. The frame has some paint / wood / gesso loss, and needs a cleaning. One ofthe ornamental edges is alittle loose and lifting up, should be improved with a bit of wood glue. The white computer mouse is in the photo to give size and color reference, and is not included in the sale.
There is a label on back from Revel Frames Inc. which was a fine NYC gallery beginning in the 1960s who also sold hand carved picture frames andmoldings, so I am guessing the frame is from around then. It says the style is R-105 and the size 8x10 (thy must stamp the closest approximate because the actual opening is about8 3/4\" x10 7/8\" and the original price was marked $100.00
This is a very high quality vintage / antique frame, from a fine art painting gallery, museum quality. There is some minor damage (see photos) but I think the frame looks great as is, except for needing a cleaning.Exterior dimensions are approximately 18 1/4\" by 16 1/4\" (18.25 x 16.25). Looks like it can hold a canvas that is 11 1/2\" by 9 1/2\" (11.5\" x 9.5\"). The window is about 10 7/8\" x8 3/4\"
Additional picture frame measurements: Height is approx. 2 1/2\" tall, rabbet depth (where the canvas drops in) is approx. 1/2\"
