Vintage PH Leonard Vienna Austria Porcelain Chamber Stick Candle Holder C1900 :

Soft yellow and white background. Delicately hand-painted flowers on two sides. The other two sides are a handpainted gold design. The handle, with thumb-rest, and the four scrolled feet are gilded in gold as is the top four edges along with a circle of gold for the candle.
In the late 1800\'s and early 1900\'s candles were used at night to light homes. This candle holder, called a ChamberStick, was designed to be carried from room to room with a lit candle. The loop on the side and the thumb rest made it easy to carry and the raised lip around the top edge prevented dripping wax from falling to the floor.
The underside bears the green under-glaze stamp of P. H. Leonard, Vienna, Austria which was used from 1890 to 1908.
