I don\'t know the age of this unusual painting, but I bought in several decades ago and it wasn\'t new then. I\'m also unsure of the medium as the painting has no glass cover, as is customary in oil paintings. However, I\'m not sure if this is a watercolor or oil. It is painted on board, so I\'m inclined to guess that it is a watercolor. It is absolutely charming. The painting depicts 7 cherubs in a horizontal view throughout the process of making wine. First one climbs a tree with a bucket to pick the grapes; then another examines the contents of a bucket; another brings a ladder to a branch so the grapes can be reached; the next cherub stands on a stool picking grapes off the tree and the last two tend the grapes in a wooden device which crushes the juice out of the grapes. The background is jet black which is a vivid contrast to the scene of pinkish cherubs, light wood and greenery. It is outlined top and bottom by a red line. This is painted on a neutral-colored board and framed with a plain gold frame that shows some signs of age, which I think enhances the look. This is not a modern painting. It is entitled \"Pompei\" and signed by \"Francione.\" It measures 15\" across X 7\" high. It will brighten up a small area with its wit, skilled drawing and color.
