This is a stunning handcrafted vintage American Indian traditional natural fiber basket woven by Phyllis Antone.This basket is made of the traditional beargrass foundation with yucca wrapping.
The card in the picture is from the Heard Museum will go to the new owner.
Papago baskets are handcrafted of beargrass, yucca (white or green) and devils claw (black). The technique used is known as coiling. Split stitch baskets are made of beargrass and sewn with yucca in such a manner that the coil is exposed to form part of the pattern.
