Up for sale a vintage square goldtone compact by the renown American jeweler Paul Edmund Flato. The compact is decorated with 5 octagonal coins that feature the head of a Native American chief surrounded by stars. This piece measures 2.75\" square. It is signed Flato on the interior of the compact on the powder lid. Paul Edmund Flato (1900-1999) was a popular American jeweler based in New York City from the 1920\'s to the 1940\'s. Considered the first celebrity jeweler, he was well known for important jewelry and was an early proponent of whimsical pieces. His long list of movie star clients included Greta Garbo, Mae West, Rita Hayworth, Joan Crawford, Carmen Miranda, Marlene Dietrich, Katharine Hepburn and Gloria Vanderbilt- many of whom wore his pieces on screen.
