You are looking at a rare and highly collectible Shure Brothers 730 B microphone made during the 1940\'s. This unique microphone has one of the most outrageous and creative designs ever made from the the Shure Brothers microphone company. The all metal body with satin chrome plating and black screens have that classic deco inspired design that stands out from all the others. the 730 microphone never changed during it\'s brief life span and origianally came with a crystal cardioid element. Like so many early crystal microphones...this one was shot.
I spent a bit of time installing a new Magnetic controlled element with a hardened foam housing that fits perfectly inside of this 730 A mic. It fits perfectly and snug. there was no alteration to the mic itself and the element and foam housing can be easily removed if one chooses to do so in the future. The sound is quite an improvement over what would have originally been. You can now use this 730 B to broadcast or sing with.
The element is a high quality Aiwa Japanese LOW Z unit. It\'s uni-directional and very strong. It will last for decades to come.
As you can see in the pictures provided the satin chrome finish is in pretty good shape despite some pitting. Far above average for what few 730\'s you find on if you are lucky enough to come across one. The black shure badge is almost good as new and states clearly that it was made in Chicago Ill. The joint mechanism works perfectly and the black silk screens were replaced with high quality, thin foam as they were shot. There is a slight bend in the top right, outer grill but very minor.
The threads for the cable and stand are perfect...nothing stripped. Overall, this is a very nice example of a Shure 730 microphone and quite rare. I\'d give it a conservative 7 + on a scale of 1 - 10. Mic comes with a very nice original cloth 9 ft, 3 pin cable. Soft and pliable after all of these years. Perfect for the 730 B. You\'d be hard pressed to find one nicer if you can find one at all? If you demand a nice working 730 mic...this will fit your needs.
