You are looking at a one of the rarer microphones built by Electro Voice during the mid 1950\'s in Buchanan, Michigan and it comes with an original E.V 423A desk stand.
The 650 model microphone has a bold, aggressive industrial look to it. I\'ve often thought of it as a sledgehammer.
This 650 model mic has a highly polished chrome housing with a dynamic element and an adjustable impedance switch you could use for a whole range of applications. These mics were quite expensive and generally cost 3 to 4 times more than most of the mics E.V was producing at the time. I have heard these with good elements and they sound fantastic. This one happens to be not be one of them. It\'s been tested and the element is dead so it should be used for display, prop or repair purposes only.
The 650 had the revolutionary XLR connection which very few mics had at that time. The dual switch on the lower pistol grip was intended for High and Low impedance depending on the users needs. As seen in the pics provided the mic does have a bit of wear in the form of pitting and bubbling in several spots. The 650 badge looks good and completely legible. It still has a decent luster to it still.
The mic is quite large being 5 inches tall X 5 inches long and 2 inches wide. Weighing in at a solid 2 pounds she\'s built like a tank. No loose or missing parts. Joint mechanism works perfectly.
If you are a hardcore collector of vintage mics then you\'ll appreciate one of these hard to find 650\'s. A funky mic to display and sure to draw attention anywhere it sits. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE...
The desk stand is an E.V 423A desk stand which shows the same amount of wear but compliments the 650 microphone.
The 423A was manufactured for about 30 + years and is great for any small to medium sized mic. It\'s 4 inches tall X 5 inches wide. Total height with the mic and stand is appx 9 inches high.
The satin chrome stem shows typical wear and the top of the base shows some heavy scratches and fine pitting. Please let the detailed pics be your guide. All 3 original rubber pads are present to keep the stand from scratching any surface it may sit on. This stand has the universal 5/8 thread.
