If you love the look and sound of the Electro Voice 664 cardioid microphone then you might want to consider something equally nice and considerably more exotic.
A gorgeous and rare 1950\'s Knight model 4550 Cardioid Dynamic microphone with a polished chrome body. This microphone is just slightly bigger than your classic Electro Voice 664 mic and has the exact same sound quality. Apparently Knight used the exact same element as the E.V 664 in their 4550. This microphone was manufactured in Chicago, Ill by Allied Radio Corp. I\'m not sure what ever happened to this company but this 4550 was their shining star.
It should be noted right away that the 4 pin 4550 mic is wired the same as an E.V 664. Most 4550 mics were not but this one is so it will except your standard screw on 4 pin cable.
As you can see in the pictures provided the body on this mic is pristine with literally no wear. She is museum quality both in looks and sound. The mic is set at Low Z and has an extremely strong signal with a warm, rich tone. The chrome is highly polished and absolutely glowsas doesthe metal mesh screen. The ON / OFF switch slides smooth as it should. The joint mechanism has plenty of firm resistance and you have a wide degree of tilt up and down. No issues. The threads for the stand and cable are perfect with no wear or cracks.
The mic comes with it\'s original hard to find box. Even harder to find foam inserts and impossible to find original data sheet. An excellent package deal.
This mic would be ideal for the collector of vintage microphones.
