This model is 1970\'s model and vintage, not really available in the market. Back in 1970s Japanese Govt passed a bill in the parliament that all the authentic band has to come with JIS mark and has to put the price tag on the product to stand out from the copy and fake fountain pen brands. After the bubble economy in Japan, lots of factories were emerged and started making all kinds of fake brands. It was a bold step from the ministry of Japan to keep the best quality control among the brands in Japan. All the pens during that time came with JIS mark and price tags are absolutely authentic and high quality. As you can see from the picture, pen looks absolutely new however, it passed more than 70 years already. In 1970s pens whichever came with 5000 Yen or more price tag, in recent time pen with same quality comes more than $350. Please feel free to ask me anytime, if you have any inquiries.

Today\'s tribute to one of the best sellers in 1970\'s and my favorite: Platinum Steel 1970\'s fountain pen

The Platinum Steel is a vintage fountain pen that you may have seen online or used before. It is needless to say what a classic and authentic pen it is that made its mark until now It was first produced in the 70s as a pocket pens and was available in a posh 18K white gold-nib.

PLATINUM LIMITED EDITION PENS: HANDCRAFTED DESIGN

The defining feature of the Platinum Pocket pen is it\'s legendary big cap, which works in a similar way to transform a small sized capped pen into a reasonably sized posted pen. The cap really is very long and so posts and closes securely. As you can see, the it’s almost as long as the pen. In 1970s leaser print work in metal was not started yet, all the decoration on the barrel was handcrafted very beautifully.

Black cap and barrel. Nib is 18k white gold and very soft. Short pen with a long section that posts to full length. Cartridge or converter fills. Excellent condition same as pictures. Converter does not come with the package, only cartridge will be provided.

LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY:

Pocket pens are a genuine Japanese invention. These are pens with very long sections and caps, and very short barrels. The cap, however, fits tightly on the barrel when posted making a full size pen to write. Platinum was the company that launched the idea of pocket pens in 1964, and the rest of Japanese companies followed suit soon afterwards. Sailor released their version of pocket pen in 1967 and it is confirmed. This model is one of the following models from the pioneer model of pocket pens that Platinum ever released along with silver soft pocket pens.

Platinum Steel Fountain Pen, 18K WG Nib is a rare and beautiful brass metal handcrafted fountain pen from Japan\'s premium fountain pen company, Platinum. This model has become very rare and not really available in recent days. i collected few pieces from a fountain pen lover.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE:

This pen had been used when I got it in my hands. It shows some tear and wear on the cap, mostly. The adjustment between cap and barrel and cap and section is perfect despite almost 40 years of use. And that is especially important for the writing comfort in a pocket pen.

Very smooth fine nib in 18 K white gold. There is no indication of the actual point. The nib engraving only says “18K and \"P\" Platinum\'s trade mark\". The ink flow is just perfect for this nib. The demands are easy to meet as the nib is very rigid.

This pen has 18K sold gold fine nib and it really very balanced indeed. It is also incredibly smooth and wet. It goes to show that Platinum’s ability to produce amazing nibs at reasonable prices goes back a long way.

WHY SO EXPENSIVE & HARD TO FIND:

These models were only sold here in Japan, intended for the Japanese market, which explains why they are so highly valued in the west. Even in Japan they are difficult to find. But they are such tough pens, the ones that do turn up are usually still in great condition. These are workhorse pens.
