Please note...for some reason and am not sure if I\'m the only one experiencing this problem but am unable to use photo editing features before putting up this listing on . I apologize for not being able to fine tune my pictures of this sheath/scabbard as yet to better show the fine detail in the scrimshaw. Will continue working on this to resolve and hopefully have clearer pictures available shortly.

This listing isfor a vintage rare Puukko Sami Finnish scrimshaw knife sheath which Ibelieve dates back to the 1920s. I\'ve had this sheath since 1979 atwhich time it was passed on to me by a knife collector. Unfortunatelyhe did not have the original knife with it so I only have the sheath.

Some wonderfulgeometric patterned scrimshaw done on the bone of this sheath.Commensurate with age the bone does have some marks and nicks whichbelieve were there at the time given to me. For the greatest part ofit\'s life with me the sheath has been stored. At one point years agoa puppy did get to it and chewed some on the upper leather part ofthe sheath leaving teeth marks which show in my pictures. Leatherpart of the sheath has been recently treated with Lexol torecondition it.

Overallmeasurement of the sheath is approximately 7 ¾” - 8” total. Bonescrimshawed part of sheath measures approx. 5” with leather part ofsheath measuring approx. 3”. Approximately 1” wide. To hold thetwo sides of the bone sheath together there are 4 tiny brass nails.Please note in pictures there is a small mount of mild separationbetween front and back of sheath, very slight.

Wonderful pieceof history and great example of Puukko Sami scrimshaw. Perfect witha little care for a knife to accompany it.
