Vintage RENAUD PARIS Compact with La-May Logo on the Cover German Silver Marked:

\"Roystone\'s last vanity case. Manufactured by the Pallas Manufacturing Co of New York City c1928. Following the company\'s collapse, surplus cases were used by the Renaud cosmetics brand.
Putting all this together, it seems clear that Roystone’s products would have been expensive to make and that eventually he was unable to compete with the large number of alternate cosmetics manufacturers that had swamped the market from the mid 1920s onwards. The result was that, in April 1928, Roystone’s company, by then renamed to L’Amé Inc, went into receivership with debts of $90,000 owed mainly to his package manufacturers - Theodore W Foster & Bro Co, The Tin Decorating Company and The Metal Package Corporation. Despite reaching an agreement with his creditors, who eventually agreed to become stockholders in his company to allow it to continue to operate, the company became an inevitable casualty of the Wall Street Crash and the following Great Depression. There is no evidence of a La May vanity case being produced after this time. In a sobering postscript, collectors may occasionally come across The Pallas-manufactured case, with the La May couple but bearing the brand name Renaud. Clearly, this company made use of surplus La May stock following its corporate failure. And as for Roystone, while he never again rose to prominence in the cosmetics field, he made enough money to vacation regularly in the Bahamas well into his 70s.\" ThisInformation I found on the internet by \"Compactstory\" as I recognized the La-May Logo but it had the Renaud Paris signed name. This is a fun find and it is in good condition for its age. There is a little discoloration on the edge of the mirror and a few spots of age on the German Silver Compact. It is 2\" in diameter by 5/16\" deep. It is signed Renaud Paris and German Silver on the side of the compact. This would be a great addition to any collection. Please read all terms before offerding.
