The box is electric, and you plug your electric lights into it. Please note that the outlet on the box will not accommodate the newer electric plugs that have one prong slightly wider than the other. I have tested this box, and it works great! Some very minor scratching in the plastic. There is a volume control on one side. The box stated that it can be used with up to 10 sets of 35 mini lights. The cord is approx 6 feet. It comes in the original box, and includes safety and operating instructions. For indoor use only. Thanks for shopping with me!
