This is a vintage set of fourgraduated-size Arabic dallahs, the traditional pots used to brew and serve coffeeas a sign of hospitality and good socializing.

These four pots have all the distinctivecharacteristics of genuine dallahs – a bulbous body tapering up to a ‘waistline’and then flaring out to a spire-shaped hinged lid, and the most strikingfeature, a long crescent-shaped spout. Note:thanks to Wikipedia for the dallah details.

The pots look like heavily silver platedcopper (there is some copper ‘show-through’ on the base of the smallest pot)….ormore likely they may be stainless steel with a copper core. Unfortunately but there are no metallurgists in our house.

The four pots are numbered, from smallestto largest, 8 over 11, 29, 30, and 11.Not sure what the numbers signify.Each pot has painstaking punch-dotted Arabic phrases on one side and apalm tree on the other. The threelargest pots carry an Arabic crest of some sort – featuring scimitars -- on theundersides of the lids and a similar crest on the bottoms, along with large‘PATENT No 86710’ and a small ‘English Metal Mills’ legend.

The condition of the pots is vintageexcellent. There are no dings ordents. There are some light usagescratches.

The age of these pots is uncertain. I have seen them described as having an1869 Egyptian origin, but that’s quite doubtful. Needless to say, however, thepots do have some age. They’requite decorative and even useful.
