Vintage Steamship Silver - Italian Line Llloyd Sabaudo Dish - 1920's Or Earlier For Sale
This sale is for a special and very heavy silver plated dish made by Broggi of Milan for the Italian steamship company, Lloyd Sabaudo. Lloyd Sabaudo had several large liners that sailed between Italy, South America and the United States. "Conte Berde," "Conte Russo," Conte Grande" and "Conte Biancamno" were the most widely known. Lloyd Sabaudo was in the process of building their huge flagship, "Conte Di Savoia" when all the lines were merged into one company. It was merged with several other Italian ocean liner companies into the "Italia Line" in the early 1930's. The "LS" dates from before the first World War (1907-1914) and these pieces were probably used on the ships until the merger in 1932; after that everything was marked "Italia."This heavy silver plated dish is elegant and timeless in its design. It measures approximately 1 3/4 inches in height and has an approximate diameter of 7 inches. It is side marked with the clear and distinct logo "LS." It has earned its beautiful vintage patina made up of the kind of surface scratches one would expect of a piece of vintage commercial silver plate. Only on the bottom will you find a few spots where the plating thinly covers the base metal. (of course, these 'imperfections' on the bottom are not noticeable and do not detract from the design nor the patina) The markings on the bottom are as follows: some sort of Broggi logo (tough to decipher .. a stylized "M" with a crown on top???) followed by "Broggi Milano." A very special reminder of a time gone by. A beautiful piece that will not disappoint. Please look at all the pictures and feel free to email me with any questions or concerns and I will do my best to answer them as soon as possible.
