Vintage Sylvsmidja 830S Norway Heart SOLJE~4-1/2\" Silver Gilt Wedding Brooch/Pin
AnOutstanding signed Solje! Managing to be both beautifully delicate and powerfully strong at the same time, this is a lovely example of the traditional Norwegian handmade filigree brooch, with its multiple dangling pendants and ornaments. They hang from a heart shaped pinsurmounted bya crown,allstudded with applied beads.The threerows of dangles terminate with fancynotched diamond-shapedornaments. The frame and filigree have a woven and twisted rope pattern which, along with the beading, makes it very textural and contrasts beautifully with the smooth spoons.
The brooch measures about 4-1/2\"longby about 1-7/8\" wide by 5/16\" deep and weighs21.5 grams.
It is signed on a plaque on the back, as shown in thepenultimate photo, \"830S[partly obscured]\" below a letter \"J\", the signature of Sylvsmidja Sylvvareverksted which began in Voss, Norway in 1940.(Next to last photo.) It has the old type of findings with its simple c-clasp.
The brooch is inExcellentvintage condition with just surface dirt, light scratches and tarnish as expected signs of wear due to age. The spoons and diamonds are gold-plated, (vermeil), for added contrast and shimmerand gleambeautifully with movement in the play of light. There is a slight reddish-golden cast tothe silverin other areas of thebrooch, like the top half of the heart,as well. Thesolje has alovely vintage patina; cleaning and polishing are left to the buyer\'s discretion.
Bolesøljes or Rosesøljes, as the silver brooches are called, are worn in multiples with traditional folk costumes and this one will look great with others in your collection or on its own. It is very eye-catching and graceful with a lot of dimension and movement. This well made vintage example of traditional Scandinavian wedding jewelry will add the romance and allure of history to your wardrobe and your collection as well! It would also make a great gift, although I doubt you will want to part with it, and will come to you in a gift box, just in case.
