Vintage early 1940s Trifari Crown \'Alfred Phillipe\' Heart Dress Pin Clip with eye catching, brightly colored cabochons of blue and citrine (golden yellow) in BEAUTIFUL, LIKE NEWcondition.
The Trifari Company was founded by Gustavo Trifari, an Italian immigrant who arrived at Ellis Island from Napoli in 1904 at the age of 20. In 1930, Trifari hired Alfred Philippe as head designer. Philippe\'s background designing fine jewelry for Cartier and Van Cleef and Arpels brought a sense of elegance and glamour to costume jewelry. During the 1930s and 1940s the \"diamante\" jewelry style became very fashionable as these pieces used rhinestones and crystals set in gold wash or vermeil over sterling but they had the look of diamonds and other precious gems set in gold or platinum.
Among their most popular designs were Dress Clips, such as the one for sale, that had the look of fine jewelry and diamonds. One of their early marks, first used around 1937, featured a crown over the T. When you examine my photos, you will see that this dress clip has such markings. The dress clip measures 1 3/4\" at its widest and 1 3/4\" at its longest.
In our family since the 1940s, my mother-in-law was the one and only owner of this lovely vintage piece of costume jewelry.
