Here is a nice example of a US Military multimeter, model number AN-USM-223. It\'s in good vintage condition and includes the case with spring-loaded latches, a high voltage lead with banana plug, spare fuses, and a concise controls guide. Note that the sub-model number for the meter itself is ME-297/U.
Anyone familiar with this meter model will know that it was designed for battery types that are no longer easily available. However, there are commercially available batteries that will work - I tested this meter with a conventional 1.5V C-cell and a pair of 3.6V AA cells. These are a very tight fit, but if you\'re careful they will fit.
All controls appear to be operational and feel solid. I don\'t have the means to test its high-voltage capabilities, but it accurately measured a 9V and 1.5V dry cell as well as 120V AC household current.
