Item Description

This is a set of six illustrated, pictorial hard covers with matte, cloth-like covering over the boards. All are collectible, vintage Weekly Reader Children’s Book Club printings circa 1962-1979. All have a \"sweetly spooky\" theme appropriate for elementary age children. Not scary - entertaining, age-appropriate and cute!

Condition

The binding is Very Good+ to Very Good++ (light wear) on all. Binding appears solid and sturdy with pages very tight (most page spreads want to close up rather than lay open flat, as with a new book). All of the books stand on end with ease if opened just a little (as they are such thin books - not cocked). The only wear noted is that a few have a very light slant to the spine edge from shelving. No tears, cracks, missing pages or other major defects detected.

The exteriors are all at least Very Good (light wear). The boards appear smooth and overall clean with slight to light age/shelf wear, primarily light toning to the color and a few small/light tan or dusted surface spots. The books have light surface rubbing to the illustration color at the edge/spine tips, and scattered tiny/shallow bumps to the edge tips (mostly to the spine/corner tips) from storage. The exterior page blocks (visible when book is closed) also appear overall clean beyond expected, light-to-moderate age-toning and a few scant, superficial dusted/toned spots that likely occurred during decades of storage. No writing, inscriptions, coloring, stickers, grit, large or heavy stains, moisture damage, foxing, sunning, tears, creases, frays, etc. noted.

The interiors are Very Good+ or better on 4 books (couldn’t tell if read, perhaps flipped through and shelved) and at least Good on 2 (light, childish wear from reading). All of the books have expected light-to-moderate age-toning, though beyond that, “Gus” and “Be Nice to Spiders” appeared to have been read with light thumbing (little dimples from turning the pages) and some scattered smudges here and there (not all over the place - the size of a childish finger print or smaller). Gus also had one very small surface “pull” to the margin tip of one page (tiny – paper intact, just a little roughened). Those two books are in the Good range, though otherwise, I couldn’t tell if the other books were read by looking at the pages (perhaps flipped through, if that, and shelved). No writing, inscriptions, coloring, stickers, bookplates, grit, large or heavy stains, tears, creases, moisture damage, or foxing, noted. Nice set with pages definitely above-average overall - and particularly given their age/audience.

Overall, this is a set of vintage children’s book from the collectible series that I rated Very Good minus. The lot contains 6 books that are were meant for elementary school kids, and though they are about 4-5 decades old, they have overall light storage wear. Beyond expected age-toning they have less than expected wear and tear.

All of the books contain “sweetly” spooky stories with happy outcomes and life lessons perfect for small children. Super cute stories – adorable, period 1960s/70s illustrations, too.

We accept payment via PayPal. Domestic shipping and handling is via Media Mail (Book Rate) and includes a USPS tracking number. Please note that Media Mail is subject to postal inspection and can take from 6 to 15 business days to arrive, and in some cases longer depending upon delivery location If you require faster shipping, please select one of the other shipping options at checkout or email us for a shipping quote.

To ensure you receive your items as soon as possible, we package our parcels and drop them at the post office the next business day, so long as payment is received by Noon CST. Please also note that we deliver all packages to the post office timely, yet once the package is in post office hands, we have no control over when tracking information will be updated or actual delivery time. That being said, should any package encounter an unreasonable delay (which so far is quite rare), we would be happy to follow-up regarding its status.

We offer discounted, combined U.S. Media Mail shipping if you purchase multiple items from your cart and contact us for an invoice prior to final checkout.
