I am offering a fantastic vintage Bakelite Mahjong game set, with case, from the 1930s. This set is offered as-is. I am not a collector or a professional, and I know very little about this item besides the fact that it was given to my parents in the 1950s by my grandfather, who worked in US Customs and often \'acquired\' things from all over the world. It seems to be a complete set to me, although I really can\'t be sure and recommend that you run my photos past an expert if such a thing is important to you. I see that I have all the suits, and the directions, eight tiles that appear to be four flowers and four seasons, plus twelve that I can\'t identify (four look like the rune Elgahz upside down, four are blank boxes, and four are some unidentifiable character). I think the eight tiles featuring a figure with the head of an ox are supposed to be the eight jokers, but again, I am not an expert! There are also nine more tiles I can\'t identify at all, and which look like they may have been replacements from another set, as well as a single die (dice), four round tokens, a round thing with a hole (something for the chips?), four swirly amber racks in amazingly great condition (they are not made out of the stone amber; it\'s just that I have seen this style called \"amber racks\" before in other mahjong set sales), and a whole bunch of chips. The case, which is WELL used, even has its two original keys!
This is a beautiful collector\'s item for someone with an interest in this game. It has been stored in my non-smoking home for decades, although the original owners definitely smoked! The set weighs over 11 pounds before packaging, so I will ship via UPS ground.
