This beautiful vintage pond yacht is no simple folk art piece to be displayed, not at all. This yacht was part of a hand built Roosevelt era inspired program that encouraged kids to build different types of model yachts and sail them at the Belle isle model yacht basin, it\'s construction dates back to the 1920\'s. The yacht utilizes the Braine automatic sailing system invented in 1905, and was the first system to make real sailboat racing possible. The boats were hand crafted to exact spec and weighted with hand cast lead keels. When properly set by an expert keelsman the boat will correct itself as it veers off course, the rudder making adjustments to keep it on its intended line.
Class B has a 30\" \"wine glass\" cross-section hull, made using \"bread and butter\" construction and sporting a fin keel. This model design dates back to the 1930\'s and requires more skill to hollow out the lifts inside the hull and smooth the outside to the proper contour. Braine gear is used for steering.
This perticular boat is a two tone green and tan. The boat contains a complete Braine system and is only in need of new rubber on the tensioner, but all brass is intact and complete. There are some scratches in the keel, likely damaged in some high seas racing of some sort. The keel appears to only have scratches, I pressed on it in several directions and although there are the scratches it doesn\'t seem to have ever been repaired or broken. The stand is well built and lined with foam to protect this beauty, the pin stripping on the sides has been pushed up slightly by the stand arms. The sail is perfectly intact and useable, it seemed it could be cleaned up a bit but I didn\'t want to be to forcefull with it.
This boat is a staggering 31\" long with a 37.5\" mast and an overall height of 45.5\", 46.5\" on stand, with a width of 5 \".
This boat is long and narrow for high speed and simply drips with sex appeal! With very little effort this boat could be a nostalgic sailing experience for a older person wanting to relive there Belle isle childhood sailing days or just a fantastic conversation piece, either way it is destined for greatness in someones collection.
