SUPER RARE Vintage VIRGINIA METALCRAFTERS Victorian GAS LAMP style Solid BRASS and RASPBERRY PINK Pressed GLASS Wall Sconces, made at the foundry in WAYNESBORO Virginia USA.
Beautifully crafted in solid brass (NOT brass-tone) and Carnival Glass type Glass by one of the top brass foundries in America. Virginia Metalcrafters were famous for the quality of their lamps, and it shows here. Not sure who produced the glass - it may have been Fenton or one of the other remaining art glass producers. It is also absolutely top quality - not a cheap copy.
Closely modeled after VICTORIAN GAS LAMP Sconces, down to the brass keys that turn them on and off. The color of the glass seems to vary as you look from different angles, moving from pink to raspberry and even glimpses of salmon. The shades are beautifully molded and fit snugly in the sconces.These are probably UNIQUE at this point, and entirely unavailable. They were a special order item in the mid 1970\'s, when VIRGINIA METALCRAFTERS was at it\'s peak around the Bicentennial.
At that time, they were expanding their offerings to supplement the COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG Authorized BRASS and IRON items they had been famous for since the 1930\'s. Top quality reproductions and adaptations including trivets, candlesticks, lamps, and trays as well as giftware were produced up until the factory closed down in 2005.
Glass bases are about 6 1/2\" across, and the brass socket stands out about 7\" from the wall. Shades are about 5 1/2\" top to bottom of base and 4 1/2\" wide at the widest.
In very good to excellent but as-found condition - a little dusty. In the original box, look as if they were briefly mounted once and taken down. Some very light grime and slight surface discoloration in a few spots from hand contact. 95% clean and bright, and a little polish will get the remaining 5% good as new. One of the glass wall bases is CHIPPED on one of the stand-off legs that sit against the wall. It is NOT visible when the sconce is mounted, and will not effect the stability of the sconce.(Shown in last photo).
