Vtg 1920s-30s Large 97L Pink Dbl Damask Tablecloth POINSETTIAS & 12 Napkins-EUC:

Offered is a beautiful and vibrant full-bodied color of pink, with a strong hint of peach, for a “Peachy Pink” cotton double damask tablecloth that belonged to my mother-in-law. My husband remembers her using it when he was very young, so it is very old and he thinks was inherited by her from her mother.

(I assume this is high quality cotton, as it does not have the coarser hand of linen and though supple and satin-like, does not have the feel of rayon and cotton, but of course without a label, I could be wrong. I do know it must have a high thread count to be so firm and smooth.)

It is simply gorgeous and in lovely condition with a central rectangular motif surrounded by poinsettias, leaves and long crossed stem buds.

(At first I thought the pattern was of lilies, but believe the narrower petals indicate poinsettias, as most of the varieties of lilies I had in my gardens had fuller and wider petals.)

To Describe:

The iridescent relief areas that sometimes appear grey in photos are actually of a minute difference of this pink and vary from a pale greyish-white pink to a darker shade, depending on how the light source hits that portion, which is of a different weave than the main body of the fabric.

Please have a look at the 2nd photo where I have flipped back a corner, so that the fabric grain runs in an opposite direction to see what I mean. Also see how gorgeous and satiny these areas are.

And the reverse sides show the same pattern, meaning this set is what is known as double Damask and all edges are hemmed by hand, with what appears to be a small whipped overcast stitch.

Overall the tablecloth and matching twelve (12) napkins are of a gorgeous heft and weight…not thinned or flimsy at all.

Before packing; the tablecloth by itself is 2.25lbs and when including the napkins the total weight is 3.75lbs.

I have washed this in cool water with Tide Free and pressed all. The only issues are as shown in the photo with the red pencils. They point to two very faint stains located within the center panel equal to approximately 1” x 3/8” and the other equal to approximately 3/8” x 3/8”. In the next photo there is a 3rd tiny stain located about 1” in from the corner with a diameter of 1/16” and a duplicate of one of the stains already shown in the photo with the red pencils in the center area.

So the total is 3 stains that I found and made note of while pressing this tablecloth.

Size of the cloth is 97” long x 60.5” wide

Size of each napkin is 17.5” x 17.5” square
