Florida motorcycle road racing late 1950s and early 1960s....some in Gainesville, FL... AFM sanctioned - see photo.
The most interesting part of this collection is one small 2.5\" x 3.5\" photo... this wasshot of Joel Arthur Gray taking the first ever motorcycle lap around the the newDaytona Int. Speedway - Jan. 1960.... he is on his Parilla GS 175... Joel proveda motorcycle could make it around the 31 degree banks... early on, the small cc road bikeswere not allowed to race on the track due to safety concerns.
with the Daytona Speedway photo, is his obit stating he was was the first to complete a lap.
Most of these photos were taken by his younger brother Brad, who went on to become aFlorida journalist/photographer... we purchased the contents of Brad\'s estate 12 years ago.
