This vintage Ship\'s Chronometer is all intact and operating. Franklin Mint did a great job on this Chronometer. The piece was issued by Franklin Mint in 1992 to commemorate the Columbus Discovering America in 1492 (after the Native Americans of course). Nice gold colored etched metal plate on the inside of the top cover showing the Columbus\' Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria ships and images of the European, African and American continents.
As usual, no corners were cut in making this high quality chronometer. Heavy metal with a nice gold colored lacquer. Beautiful wood case with two swivel lids and then the base. A couple of spots to the finish on the front of the case. Brass look corner protector pieces and brass handles on both sides of the case. There is a key to unlock the lower lid from the base case which works. The glass is intact on the second lid and then the glass over the chronometer movement has a beveled look to it and is also in place. The swivel lids are securely attached to each other and the base by beautiful looking brass hinges.
The face of the clock is 3-5/8\" across. The locking tab to hold the chronometer in place operates. The gimbal ring is fully operational, just like a compass to keep it level as a ship goes thru the ocean. The quartz clock is in operational condition. The clock operates on one AA battery (not included, ignore what is shown in picture).
The chronometer case is 7\" tall, by 7-5/8\" across, by 7-5/8\" wide. The clock face is 3-5/8\" across. No original box or papers with this other than some operating instructions.
