Beautiful Size Large to Extra Large VintageWorld War II Era Satin (probably rayon) gown nightgown is cut on the bias for great fit and drape. It has beige lace straps and beige lace trim at the neckline that has slits with a satin ribbon woven through it. The lace and satin on the gown are both fine, but the ribbon is tattered and shows age. I am leaving it as is, since it is original to the piece, but it could be replaced very easily with a new ribbon, which just weaves in and out of the lace. The color is pink, with a slight peach tint to it. The bra area has gathers underneath and is very figure flattering, and the lace insert detail is fabulous. The body of the gown skims the figure and falls to below the knee in length. The hem is trimmed with a band of dainty beige lace, and the hem is gored at one side for drape and fit. It is about knee length or just below the knee.
This is Ultra feminine, Very romantic andabsolutely gorgeous. I believe it is individually sewn, exquisitely crafted by a talented seamstress from an era long past. This is an amazing example of the romantic style of the World War II era, and was probably worn by a bride in the late 30\'s or early 40\'s, then carefully packed away and wonderfully preserved. The condition is excellent, especially for something this old. Perfectly wearable, and the only issues noted are the tattered ribbon and a few dents in the satin from being folded and stored.This measures as a size L to XL, and is shown on mannequin who wears today\'s size 16. She measures 42 inches around at the bust, 33 inches around at the waist, and 44 inches around at the hips. The gown fits her very well, but it would not fit measurements larger than hers. Best fit would probably be 38 to 40 or 42 at the bust. That is measured around the fullest part of the bust area, and is not your bra size.
The measurements, taken with garment laying flat and measured side to side (without stretching fabric) are:Bust: About 19 inches across from side seam to side seam under arms and across bra area, but this is cut on the bias, so it has some give.
(I measured this both at the lace and underneath the lace trim, and although the lace does not stretch, the fabric beneath the lace is satin and does have some give to it, along with the gathers under the bra area).
Under the bust is about 17 inches across
Hips are about 20 to 21 inches across, depending on where I measured, but again, it is cut on the bias and as you can see, it fits my mannequin who has 44 inch hips very well.Length down side seam from under arm to hem is 36 inches
