What I have here for you today is definitely a GEM in Breweriana Collectibles. It is an extremely rare beer cask from City Brewery in Exeter England...PLEASE VIEW THE LAST 3 PICTURES(photo # 11 &12 withthe yellow roof on the far right side shows the CITY BREWERY - photo #10 shows where CITY BREWERYis burning down.
I do not know how old this wooden beer keg is, but CITY BREWERY goes back to the year 1801(based on my research).
It is in great condition for its age(as you can see for yourself), except the top band is loose, but will staywhen pushed down(it probably needs to be hammered down).
It is made of wood(could be oak - very heavy), wrought iron(hand hammered iron bands) and the sideand top holes appear to be made of bronze/brass.
Based on my EXTENSIVE RESEARCH, I HAVE NOT been able to find other similar kegs as this one(not even a beer bottle). In fact, the only items that I found \'that SOLD\' from CITY BREWERY were some paper labels, but there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for sale now or in the past from this beer company, making this beer barrel EXTREMELY RARE(Photo # 10 could be the reason).
It is very, very well made(professionally made) and for being this old, it looks SUPER FANTASTIC! PLEASE VIEW ALL PHOTOS AS THEY ARE THE BEST DESCRIPTIONOF THE ITEM.It measures approximately: 17\" high x 11\" across top and weights approx: 19 pounds.
There is lots of History behind CITY BREWERY EXETER, but for some reason mostlyif not EVERYTHING related to this company has disappeared(could be because the factory being burn YOU CAN DO ALL THE RESEARCH YOU WANT ON BEER ITEMS FROM THIS PARTICULAR COMPANY \'CITY BREWERY EXETER\' AND I CAN GUARANTEE YOU THAT YOU WILL FIND \'ABSOLUTELY NOTHING\' FOR SALE FROM THIS PARTICULAR BEER COMPANY, MAKING THIS KEG EXTREMELY RARE AND I\'M ASSUMING, SUPER, SUPER, SUPER will be packed very well that will include ONLY NEW packingmaterials.
