VINTAGE STROMBECKER “BILL DING” WOODEN CLOWN TOY LOT (11)Part of a balancing / stacking game, that was marketed in the late 1930s and the 1940s from the research I’ve done. Bars and rings came with the game (which aren’t included here), and there were about 20 clowns total in a full game set. This listing is for eleven (11) of the clowns in various colors (an old ad call them as being covered with a “harmless lacquer“, probably since it was a children‘s toy). There are (3) red clowns, (3) yellow clowns, (2) green clowns, (2) blue clowns, and (1) white clown which has “BILL DING” printed on the chest. Each clown measures approximately 4-½” tall, by about 2” wide and ¾” thick. There were a few different varieties and sizes of these toys that I have seen. These are the larger, 4-½” clowns (please see the photographs for the cool circus clown design). The clowns will stack and balance on each other in various ways (see examples in the photos). There were games suggested with the set, such as “hi man”, “round up”, “ring ding”, “marble tunnel“ (where a marble, which will barely fit between the legs, is rolled so it goes through without knocking over the clown), “blow the man down”, “push ‘em”, “chop sticks”, “dress ‘em up”, “push-over”, and “three high race” (a running race with the clowns stacked three high, but the idea is to not let them fall while holding them and racing an opponent). The old game set was marketed as “20 different games” and “1001 balancing acts”.Made by Strombecker (a company which made high quality doll furniture back in the 1930s and 1940s as well).Pieces in this lot range from fair to good condition: One red clown (the one on the right in photo #4) has a significant loss of wood along one leg (dog got this one for a bit?). It can still stand properly (and balance) as the foot remains wide enough. The other ten clowns have moderate wear, small wood chips on a few, and surface marks. They have some paint chipping and some have picked up some paint color by rubbing against others (most noticeable on the back of the white clown). The majority of the clowns are in nice shape and pretty decent for old wooden toys, which are approximately 70 years old! Please examine the photographs for condition and other details.Colorful and fun, well made wooden stacking clown toys from long ago!Note: Wooden clown lot (11) will be carefully packed in a small box which will weigh about 1 pound.
