It is stamped \"Pat Pending\" and is a stamped metal construction rather than the more common cast metal. This handheld tool is used to measure the distance from the surface of the eyelid to the inside surface of eyeglasses. It operates smoothly with light finger pressure and the scale is graduated 0 - 25 mm in 1 mm increments. It is bright and shiny and shows evidence of light use. A nice piece of optometry history.
