I am pleased to offer this wonderful 1930s 940 silver ornament or concho from the belt made famous by Georgia O\'Keeffe and is by Hector Aguilar of Taxco, Mexico. This is just one piece from the belt, which is typically marked on the buckle with the Xs unmarked. This could be used to add to an existing belt or to be used as a buckle on a ribbon type belt that would be tied. 940 silver is purer than sterling and often used by the most admired silversmiths in Taxco including William Spratling and Aguilar. It\'s a wonderful piece with a great patina!
Hector Aguilar began working for William Spratling in 1936 before opening his own workshop in 1939. Aguilar had many, many well known craftsmen working for him during the years and he was also involved in many innovative Taxco ventures. Penny Morrill has dedicated a whole book to Aguilar and the Taller Borda called Silver Masters of Mexico. Aguilar\'s work is highly desired.
Hallmark: Unmarked (as is typical for this particular belt, only the buckle was marked, not the X ornaments)
Size: 3 5/8\" x 2 3/16\"; Grams: 41 (quite large and heavy)
Condition: Good vintage - I have only lightly buffed, you may wish to polish more - there are more surface scratches than usual on this ornament, you may wish to have a professional jeweler buff it out for you, though the surface scratches would not be noticeable when worn
