For your consideration a 5/8” diameter pinthat reads “Push Out Your 3rd Vest Button”. The back has the maker:Stafford Co. 96 Fulton St, New York, NY. I believe that this was aninspirational pin from advise in a book by William Danforth of Ralston PurinaCo titled “I Dare You” In part he wrote: Walk at Attention….”walk as though youwere passing General Pershing in a reviewing stand “Push out your third vestbutton”.

Condition: Clasp is in working condition,back of pin does show some corrosion, please enlarge photo’s as part ofdescription.

American entrepreneur and philanthropist WILLIAM H. DANFORTH (1870-1956) ismost famous for founding the Ralston Purina Company, but he also helped launchthe American Youth Foundation in 1925 as a resource for spurring kids tobecoming the best they can be. The spirit of his can-do philosophy isencapsulated here, in this cheerful and inspiring guide to being a creative,adventurous, magnetic, successful, daring person at any age. Ralston\'scheckerboard logo evolved from a personal development concept Danforth putforth in his book I Dare You in which he used a checkerboard to explain it.Danforth proposed that four key components in life need to be in balance. Inthe illustration, \"Physical\" was on the left, \"Mental\" ontop, \"Social\" on right and \"Religious\" on the bottom. To behealthy, you needed the four squares to stay in balance and one area was not todevelop at expense of the other. The concept became intertwined with thecompany in 1921 when it began selling feed that was pressed in cubes called\"checkers.\"
