VINTAGE WILARDY LUCITE PURSE

This lucite box bag was made by Wilardy. It is a two level \"double decker\" design with an accordion hinge on the sides to open the layers. The top lifts opens by a piano hinge and has a mirror under the lid. The bag closes with a latch made of lucite that snaps over a small, round metal fitting on the lid. The metal parts have a brass finish.

The bag is marked \"Wilardy\" and \"Wilardy U.S. Patent\" on the inside of the hinge (photo 3 is a collage of the two marks).

It measures about 9 1/4 inches long by about 4 1/4 inches wide and about 3 inches deep. These measurements don\'t include the handle or clasp. The handle drop is about 5 1/4 inches. The two compartments are the same depth (about 1 1/2 inches deep). A nice feature of this style of bag is that it will accommodate a standard cell phone which slips neatly into either compartment.

It is in good, used condition with some expected issues commonly found in a used lucite bag. There are no cracks or missing parts. The hinges and the clasp work smoothly and the handle swivels easily.

There is some wear and oxidation to the plating on the metal parts.

The mirror has some loss of the silver and fogging and has pulled away from the lid on one side. It appears to have been re-glued by its former owner and there is some glue residue on the underside of the lid. The metal hinge at the back of the lid indents more along one side (photo 10). This does not affect its operation.

There is a slight warp to the lid. It is very slightly convexly curved (may be seen in photos 6 & 8), but it is symmetrical on both sides.

There is fogging of the plastic that can be seen in some light angles. It can be seen in the gallery photo and photo 9. It blends in to the grey swirling so is not that noticeable.

Photo 11 is a collage of several areas. There are some small nicks in the plastic at the front point of the curve of the bottom section on either side (position 1 & 3 in the collage), an area of rough plastic (I believe from manufacture) right next to the seam on the front right (position 2 in the collage, also seen in photo 5), and a deeper scuff along the back side of the top layer (position 4). There are a lot of scratches on the underside (photo 12).

This bag is a nice example of a hard to find style. It is lovely, ready to be added to your collection or used out on the town!
