This is for afabulous and extremely rare Victorian desktop Go-To-Bed, vesta, candle holder and lamp from 1847. It is in the form of a street lamp complete with its original glass shade and the collar is clearly marked \'T Whartons Victoria Taper, regd 28 Sep 1847, No 120\'. The base has a lovely gothic design with a finger handle to carry the lamp, this alsohas a small socket to hold a wax match on the top of the handle.The column of the lamp pulls off and leaves the base to reveal a central well with holes all the way around to stand the matches. The candle is sprung into thecoloumn, it has a spring underneath it constantlyfeeding it up to the top as it burnsThe base of the column is grooved to strike the matches. It is the only complete one of these ihave found over the years, and itis in absolute excellent condition with no dings ordents to the metal, a lovely rich dark unpolished patina to the brassand no damage to the delicate little glass shade at all. The basemeasures 83mm (3.25\") in diameter and it stands 190mm (7.5\") tall.
