It is modeled in Art Nouveau style. It features Dachshund. Dog is shown standing with her head turned to her left. It is in brown tones with details in off white and black. Gentle texture of ceramics beautifully resembles its fur. Looks splendid. It is made in stoneware with polychrome decoration. Austrian sculptor Rudolf Chocholka (1888 - 1958) designed this figurine. He was known for magnificent animal sculptures. In 1920 – 1930s he worked for company in UK modeling large hunting groups in bronze. He started with WKK in about 1940. Chocholka spent much of his time in the Schoenbrunn Zoo in Vienna to observe animals, sketch and photograph. This arose him for so lifelike animal figurines. Figurine on this sale might be one of the best Alsatian dog designed. One of her paws carries ‘Made in Austria’ printed in black on the backside. Another paw has gold and red shield with ‘Wiena Astria Keramos’. According to my books this is production of c. 1950s. Other marking is incised ‘U’. It is known about ‘Wien Keramos’ that they often marked their figurines with original artist signs. We do not see it on this piece.
