HELIODOR (YELLOW BERYL)byElena Andia:

Heliodor is the pale yellow to golden yellow variety of the mineral beryl (Be3Al2Si6O18). The name Heliodor is derived for the Greek \"helios\" (sun) and \"doron\" (gift), meaning “Gift from the Sun”, in allusion to its yellow color. The yellow color is produced when iron Fe3+ ions replaces some of the aluminum in the crystal composition.

Heliodor can be transparent to translucent. Some crystals may contain planes of tiny two-phase inclusions, long parallel “channels”, etc.

The main sources of Heliodor are Brazil (Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo), Madagascar, Namibia, Russia, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Ukraine, USA (Connecticut, Maine and New Hampshire), Zimbabwe, etc.
